In the controversy related to Delhi High Court judge Yashwant Verma, the Supreme Court has uploaded the complete 25-page investigation report submitted by Delhi High Court Chief Justice DK Upadhyay on its website. The investigation report of the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court includes his letter to the CJI, the report of the fire department and the reply of Justice Yashwant Verma. This report also includes some photographs and videos.
In his report, Justice Upadhyay said, after examining the material provided by Justice Verma and the incident, I found that the Police Commissioner has stated in his report submitted on March 16 that the guard posted at Justice Verma’s residence had removed the debris and other partially burnt material from the room in which the fire broke out on the morning of March 15. Justice Upadhyay said, in my investigation, prima facie it seems that there is no possibility of any person other than those living in that bungalow going into that room. Be it a servant, gardener or an employee of the Central Public Works Department. In my opinion, this entire matter is a matter of serious investigation.
The apex court also released the reply of Justice Yashwant Verma
Along with the investigation report, the Supreme Court also released the reply of Justice Yashwant Verma. In his replies, Justice Verma has denied the allegations. He has said that it clearly appears to be a conspiracy to implicate and defame him. No cash was ever kept by him or any member of his family in that storeroom. He said that he strongly condemns the claim that the alleged cash belonged to him. The room in which the fire broke out and where the cash was allegedly found was an outhouse and not the main building where the judge and his family live.
Earlier, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (CJI) Justice Sanjeev Khanna constituted a three-judge committee to investigate the allegations against Justice Yashwant Verma of the Delhi High Court. Along with this, Chief Justice Upadhyay has also been asked not to assign any judicial work to Justice Verma for the time being. The committee constituted by CJI Justice Khanna includes Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court Justice Sheel Nagu, Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court Justice GS Sandhawalia and Justice Anu Sivaraman of Karnataka High Court.
